These are words you’ll commonly see when you use the Explorate platform

A - C

Agent

The overseas agency Explorate liaises with to coordinate tasks with suppliers and shipping lines abroad.

Cargo

Goods transported by ship, aircraft, or motor vehicle. Will vary in their specifications depending on the shipment type.

For instance, cargo in an LCL shipment will have different dimensions and units compared to an FCL shipment.

CargoSync

A platform feature that allows you to upload essential details of an external shipment with another forwarder and seamlessly track and monitor its progress.

Carrier

The company transporting the goods, such as an airline, shipping line, trucking company, rail company, or parcel company e.g. Evergreen, Maersk.

Consignee

Customer, or the purchaser of the goods.

Consignor

Supplier, or the shipper of the goods.

Cross-Trade

Describes shipment where both the place of destination and place of origin are not within Australian borders.

D - F

Delivery Order [DO]

A document that needs to be issued and provided to a port to release the cargo.

Dangerous Goods [DG]

Dangerous goods, are substances that when transported are a risk to health, safety, property or the environment.

Destination Handling Charges [DHC]

Destination handling charges.

ETA

Estimated time of arrival.

ETD

Estimated time of departure.

Full Container Load [FCL]

FCL, describes cargo that fills an entire freight container. These containers can be twenty foot (20') long or forty foot (40') long and can have additional features such as have an open top.

Freight Forwarder

An organisation a company can use to offset their logistics management to handle the delivery of a shipment.

G - I

General Purpose [GP]

GP containers that come in standard sizes.

High Cube [HC]

High cube containers that have added height clearance.

Heavy Weight Container [HW]

Heavy weight container.

Out of Guage [OOG]

OOG cargo refers to items too large to fit within standard six-sided shipping containers because of their dimensions.

House Bill of Lading [HBL]

Document issued by the freight forwarder, and as a result may have different shipper, consignee and notify party details.

HS Code

Customs tariff number. These codes are used to identify the goods of a shipment (commodity, origin) for tax purposes

Incoterm

International Commercial Terms (INCOTerms) are a set of international rules governing the sale of goods between buyers and sellers. They provide a common language and clarity regarding who is responsible for the costs, risks, and responsibilities associated with the delivery of goods. They are used to ensure that all parties involved in a transaction are on the same page and can confidently conduct business.

Internal Reference

A field to reference your internal numbering systems, such as PO numbers.

J - L

Less than Container Load [LCL]

Less than Container Load, for cargo that only partially fills a container. E.g. pallets/bales/bags of a good.

M - O

Master Bill of Lading [MBL]

Document issued by the carrier that will confirm the condition of the goods before they are shipped. Only the consignee on the bill of lading is allowed to apply for the release of cargo, and can be used to withhold the cargo from the consignee until they have paid (us).

Movement Type

A simplified representation of Incoterms that clearly outlines the scope of duties for which Explorate will be responsible.

Nickname

A custom label that customers can assign to their Explorate shipments, for easier identification in the card view.

P - R

Purchase Order [PO]

A detailed list of products going from the supplier to the buyer.

Roll On/Roll Off [RORO]

Roll-on/roll-off (RORO or ro-ro) ships are specialised cargo vessels designed to transport wheeled vehicles like cars, motorcycles, trucks, buses, and trailers.

Refrigerated Container [Reefer or RF]

Refrigerated container.

S - Z

Shipper Owned Container [SOC]

Shipper owned container.

Shipment

Refers to land, sea or air cargo bookings.

Terminal Handling Charges [THC]

Terminal handling charges.

Third-party Logistics [3PL]

Third-party logistics involves outsourcing a company's logistics and warehousing needs to a third-party provider.
